This report presents a detailed cost analysis of butadiene production from aliphatic hydrocarbons using the steam cracking process. In this process, a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons and steam is heated at a high temperature, which produces many unsaturated hydrocarbons, including butadiene, as by-products. This process is followed by extractive distillation using a polar aprotic solvent to separate butadiene from the other hydrocarbons. Finally, butadiene and the solvent are further separated to obtain butadiene using distillation.
