The report is a detailed study of economics of production of nitric acid by Ostwald’s Process. This process involves the high-temperature oxidation of anhydrous ammonia to nitric oxide in the presence of platinum or rhodium gauze. The nitric oxide formed is then reacted with oxygen to give nitrogen dioxide that is is subsequently absorbed in water to form nitric acid and nitric oxide. The nitric oxide is re-cycled for oxidation. The aqueous HNO3 obtained is concentrated by distillation.
