  • Technip Energies and JGC Corporation have been awarded two Front-End Engineering Design contracts for the INPEX Abadi LNG project in Indonesia.
  • One contract is for the design of a gas Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel to treat natural gas
  • The other is for an onshore LNG facility that will include two liquefaction trains and necessary support infrastructure.
  • The project incorporates carbon capture and storage technology to reinject CO2, aligning with Indonesia's net-zero emissions target.
  • It is designed to produce 9.5 million tons of LNG annually plus additional domestic gas supply.
  • The output will also contribute over ten percent of Japan's LNG imports.

Technip Energies has partnered with JGC to secure two key Front-End Engineering Design contracts for the INPEX Abadi LNG project in Indonesia's Masela Block. This represents a major development for the nation's energy sector.

One contract involves designing a gas Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel. This facility will process natural gas from the Abadi field, preparing it for transport as dry gas via an underwater pipeline to a land-based plant. The second agreement covers the design of that onshore LNG facility, which will include two liquefaction trains and necessary support structures like a jetty and logistics base. The dry gas will undergo further purification to remove impurities before liquefaction. A key aspect of the project involves capturing the CO2 removed from the gas and reinjecting it back into the reservoir.

Marco Villa, Chief Business Officer of Technip Energies, stated that LNG is a crucial transition fuel for global energy security. He expressed honor at being chosen for these essential components of the Abadi Masela development, highlighting the company's expertise in both LNG and gas FPSOs. He extended thanks to SKK Migas and INPEX, noting that winning both contracts reflects confidence in their joint ability to deliver advanced engineering packages and proposals that support the client's journey toward a final investment decision.

Shoji Yamada, President of JGC, also expressed great honor in being awarded the project. He described it as a significant advancement for low-carbon energy solutions, noting its incorporation of carbon capture technologies to produce sustainable LNG, which aligns with their energy transition goals. He added that JGC is proud to contribute to Indonesia's economic growth through local engagement and is committed to supporting the country's target of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2060.

The Abadi LNG project is designed to produce 9.5 million tons of LNG annually, plus an additional 150 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day for domestic use. This output will bolster Indonesia's energy capacity and contribute over ten percent of Japan's LNG imports. By integrating carbon capture and storage, the project directly supports Indonesia's broader objective of reaching net-zero emissions by 2060.
