Technip Energies, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and LyondellBasell are going to join forces for designing, constructing, and operating a demonstration unit for the electric steam cracking furnace technology for Technip Energies' which will be developed to lower the emissions of greenhouse gases that are linked to the production of olefins.

This unit will be built in Channelview, Texas, LyondellBasell's site and will likely pave the way for energy transition worldwide by moving towards the decarbonisation of olefins production.
An electric cracking furnace can lower up to 90% of a furnace's GHG emissions in comparison to a traditional furnace.
Steam cracking furnaces have a key function in the breaking of hydrocarbons to olefins and aromatics, which result in basic chemicals. This entire method demands elevated temperatures of over 1,500°F.
The design's concept was created by Technip Energies for the e.Furnace by T.EN™ technology makes it possible to reach this high of a temperature with the help of electricity as the source of heat.
